Who is The Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario (DICO)?
DICO is an Ontario Provincial Agency established under the Credit unions and Caisses Popularies Act, 1994. DICO’s role is to protect depositors of Ontario credit unions and Caisses Populaires from loss of their deposits. The deposits of credit union members are automatically insured up to the $100,000.00 limit.

What does the “Hands and Globe” logo represent?

The Hands and Globe logo is the official trademark of the World Council of Credit Unions and is a recognized credit union symbol in more than 70 countries. The globe symbolizes the worldwide scope of the credit union movement. The people within the globe represent the human element - the harmony of people working for people- that distguishes credit unions from other financial institutions.

What is a credit union?
A credit union is a financial cooperative modelled on the principle of self help. It is owned and run by the people they serve – their "members". Ontario credit unions are incorporated under the Credit Union Caisses Populaires Act 1994 and are regulated by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. There are more that 200 credit unions currently operating in Ontario with combined assets of more than $26 billion.

What are the differences between and Bank and a Credit Union?

Generally, a credit union will offer the same basic services that are offered at a chartered bank. The primary focus of a credit union is to meet the financial needs of their members. The primary focus of a bank is to increase earnings and the dividends to shareholders.

How do I join Margosa Credit Union?

Any individual can become a Margosa member by visiting our branch, opening an account and purchasing a single share for $25.00 . When the member closes that account,  the member shares will be redeemed and the  $25.00 returned to them.
